How to Apply

Incoming First-Year Students

The application process for each honors program is by invitation only. To be considered, please review the steps and deadlines below.

You must apply for undergraduate admission to UT by November 1.

Once admitted, qualifying students will receive an email invitation with a link to the honors application. View program comparison chart.

All honors applications are due December 15. Applications will be reviewed holistically and applicants will be notified of decisions by early February via mail.

If you qualify for more than one of our honors programs, you will be asked during the application process to rank your choices. At most, students will only be offered admission into one program. Please note that you must have been invited to apply for specific programs in order for your application(s) to be considered (i.e., students invited to apply for the Haslam Scholars, Chancellor’s Honors, and Honors Leadership Programs will not be considered for the 1794 Scholars Program).

The selection process for the Haslam Scholars Program also involves an interview process. Sixty semi-finalists will be selected in early January, and in-person interviews will be held in Knoxville, Memphis, and Nashville. Thirty finalists will be invited to campus to participate in the selection weekend in early March. Students will be assigned appointed status or alternate status at the conclusion of the weekend. A maximum of fifteen first-year students are admitted to the program each year.

If you are offered admission to one of our programs, you will have until May 1 to accept your place.

If you have any questions about the honors application process, please contact Sarah Hunter by email or phone at 865-974-3697.
