Sylvia D. Turner returned to her home state of Tennessee in 2012 after spending over 20 years in Atlanta, Georgia where she completed both her undergraduate and graduate degrees. An alumnus of Agnes Scott College (B.A. 2000) and Emory University (M.A. 2006; Ph.D. 2010), Dr. Turner earned her doctorate in sociology specializing in race, class and gender inequality. Dr. Turner’s commitment to enhancing students’ academic experiences and her belief in social responsibility and civic engagement inform her commitment to helping students become ethically engaged citizens. Currently, Dr. Turner serves as the Associate Director of the Haslam Scholars Program.
