Sophia Cui is a senior majoring in psychology and minoring in child and family studies. Sophia is the co-director of TEDxUTK, which is a club that independently organizes TED conferences on campus and is completely run by University of Tennessee students. She is also the Chair of Marketing and Outreach for the Undergraduate Research Students’ Association and serves as her cohort representative on the Haslam Scholars Program Governing Council. Sophia loves working with mothers and their children and wishes to work in the health profession. She has worked as a research assistant in the Child and Adolescent Development Lab, studying mothers at risk due to opioid misuse and their infants. In the summer of 2017, Sophia worked in a research lab at the University of Cambridge in England, studying interpersonal neural communication between mothers and their infants. She has also assisted at the Birkbeck Babylab at the University of London in the Center for Brain and Cognitive Development. In her free time, Sophia loves exploring new places, watching TV shows and movies, spending time with her friends, and trying different restaurants + coffee shops in town.
