R.J. Vogt

College Scholars - Literary Journalism

Biography

R.J. Vogt is a senior scholar pursuing a degree in Literary Journalism, which he describes as "the non-fiction people actually read." At the Daily Beacon, UT's editorially independent student newspaper, R.J. has worked as a staff writer, copy editor, news editor and currently as the Editor-in-Chief. When not at his desk, R.J. also manages alumni relations as historian of his fraternity, Pi Kappa Phi; serves UT alumni and students as a member of Student Alumni Associates; edits for the Pursuit: Undergraduate Research Journal; and is starting a student organization to eliminate wasted student meal plans by donating the equivalent values to non-profit food banks.

During the summer after graduation, R.J. plans to participate in the Journey of Hope, biking from San Francisco to Washington D.C. with his Pi Kapp brothers to raise money and awareness for Push America, a non-profit organization dedicated to those with disabilities. Beyond college, he hopes to work in either broadcast or print journalism and is also considering graduate school.
