Honors Elections

It’s Election time for Honors Council! Elections will be held for first year representatives and students can apply to be on Honors Council Committees.

First Year Representatives

Those interested in serving as a first-year representative for the Honors & Scholars Programs Class of 2019 may apply now. Applications close on Friday, August 28th at 11:59 pm. Three candidates will be selected to serve on the Honors Council.  Members of the Class of 2019 will be able to vote online for three candidates from noon on Monday, August 31st through Friday, September 4th at 11:59 am.

Applicants are encouraged to campaign amongst their peers.  The campaign period will begin on Saturday, August 29th.  Campaign materials must be removed by 48 hours after elections conclude.  In order to post campaign materials in a residence hall, you must gain permission from the respective Hall Director.  University Housing policy prohibits solicitation.

PUBLIC RELATIONS | Interested in journalism, photography, graphic design, or marketing?  Whatever your major, consider joining the Public Relations Committee.  This committee works to spotlight students and alumni, creates promotional material, and increases communication to our students through postings and media.  Meetings are every other Thursday from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Apply here.  Applications close Monday, September 7th at 11:59 pm.
COMMUNITY SERVICE | Help the members of the Honors & Scholars Programs give back to Knoxville by joining the Community Service Committee.  This committee organizes a variety of community service events for its members and the entire student body.  Meetings are every other Thursday from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Apply here. Applications close Monday, September 7th at 11:59 pm.

 

EVENTS | Believe in the power of networking? Help students connect with faculty members and each other.  The Events Committee enhances the honors student experience by providing educational and community building opportunities; it is well known for Honors Week.  Meetings are every other Tuesday from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm.  Apply here.  Applications close Monday, September 7th at 11:59 pm.

Position Descriptions:

President
• Coordinates all activities and members of this organization.
• Acts as a liaison to the University of Tennessee.
• Acts as official representative of the organization.
• Calls regular and special meetings.
• Presides at meetings.
• Prepares agenda for meetings.
• Acts as a liaison with the Director and staff of the Honors and Scholars Program.Email the current Honors Council President Sheridan Brewer at sbrewer9@vols.utk.edu with any questions about the role.

Vice President

• Assumes duties of President, when necessary.
• Assists President in coordinating activities.
• Acts as a liaison with the directors of the Honors and Scholars Program

Secretary

• Keeps minutes for each meeting and provides the members and advisor of the Council with a copy.
• Maintains a roll sheet of both active and inactive members.
• Facilitates Council communication that includes, but is not limited to,
e-mail reminders and providing minutes.
• Assists President and Vice-President in coordinating organization activities.

Treasurer

• Assists President and Vice-President in coordinating organization activities.
• Maintains accurate and current account of all organizational funds.
• Acts as liaison to Student Activities for the purposes of funding.
• Dispenses funds in accordance with goals and programs established by the organization.
• Works with the Executive Council to develop a tentative annual budget to be presented to and approved by Council at the first regular meeting of the Fall semester.

Representatives

• Have the power to bring items of business before the Council.
• Must plan or help plan a minimum of one (1) Honors Council event or project, approved by the Executive Council, per semester.
• Must attend a minimum of two (2) Honors Council or committee events per semester.
• Shall bring to the Council concerns and interests expressed
by their constituencies.
