Five CHP students awarded Parents Association International Scholarship

Summer 2009 -- The Parents Association International Scholarship was created to help student of Parents Association members who have plans of stuying, interning, or volunteering abroad. Five of the eight students awarded are members of the Chancellor's Honors Program.

Erin Cagney is a junior from Powell, TN, majoring in anthropology and minoring in French. Erin will use her scholarship to intern abroad in Kampala and Gulu, Uganda, with a program that advocates social entrepreneurship and leadership in secondary schools.

Philip Gilman is a junior from Nashville, TN. He majors in global studies with a collateral in international businnes. Philip plans to spend the spring semester of 2010 studying at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa. He also hopes to get involved with local volunteer programs while is is abroad.

Christopher Lofaro is a junior from Knoxville, TN, majoring in business. He plans to spend the spring semester of 2010 studying in Padorno del Grappa, Italy, with the Consortium of Universities for International Studies.

Stephen Townsend is a senior from Piperton, TN, majoring in architecture. Stephen will spend spring 2010 studying architecture in Krakow, Poland, and Weimar, Germany.

Lee Tyler is a junior from Knoxville, TN, majoring in speech pathology and Spanish. Lee is spending the summer in Puebla, Mexico. She is working with English-as-a-second-language (ESL) primary school students to help improve their comprehesion skills with reading, writing, and speaking English.

Students who are interested in applying for schoalrships in spring 2010, should visit http://parents.utk.edu. International Scholarship applications will be accepted during February, while the Academic, Leadership, and Service Schoalarhip applciations are due in April
