Got Scholarship? Milk Rewards Rising First-Year Student Athlete

Chelsea Knotts awarded $7,500 college scholarship by the National Milk Mustache “got milk? ®” Campaign

Hard work and smart nutritional choices are paying off for incoming Haslam Scholar and Chancellor's Honors student, who is the recipient of the coveted 2008 Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year (SAMMY) Award. Chelsea Knotts is part of a diverse group of 25 outstanding high school students selected from a record-breaking 65,000 applicants from across the country. The winners are unsurpassed when it comes to top-notch performance in academics, athletics, community service and leadership.

“We are so excited to be able to recognize students like Chelsea and reward exceptional teens like her who work hard in the classroom and their communities, while staying active and making healthy lifestyle choices, like including milk in their daily routine,” said Kurt Graetzer, CEO of the National Milk Mustache “got milk? ®” Campaign.

As a 2008 SAMMY winner, Chelsea will join a distinguished group of fellow SAMMY alumni and celebrities in the Milk Mustache campaign who serve as inspiring role models to teens across the country.

Chelsea will receive a $7,500 college scholarship and join Michelle Kwan and Avery Johnson for an award ceremony and induction into the SAMMY Hall of Fame at The Milk House at Disney’s Wide World of Sports®.  In addition, each of the 25 winners also will grace the pages of the USA Today on June 27th with their very own special-edition Milk Mustache ad, joining the ranks of Milk Mustache celebrities from Rihanna and Beyonce to Vince Carter and Michael Strahan.
College scholarships are becoming more important than ever. In the past year alone, college tuition rose 6.3 percent1 leaving many students and families to search for aid. Over the last 11 years, the SAMMY scholarship has awarded hundreds of talented teens with more than $2 million in scholarships. A panel of Milk Mustache celebrity judges including Andy Roddick, Steve Nash, Mia Hamm, Michelle Kwan and Tony Hawk helped select this year’s winners.
“I am so excited to be in a Milk Mustache ad and to have won the SAMMY Award,” said Chelsea. “It really is an honor to be among such an amazing group of students.”

Chelsea’s commitment to academics, athletics and more earned her a spot as one of the 25 SAMMY Award winners. In addition to being first in her class all four years of high school and senior class president, she has won numerous regional and state awards in both cross county and track and field. Chelsea also competed in the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics. The community service activity that she is most proud of is working with the Special Olympics Track and Field division.

Getting a Body By Milk
SAMMY Award winners know that milk is good for teens. Milk protein plays an important role in building and maintaining muscle.  By drinking three eight-ounce servings of lowfat or fat-free milk each day in place of sugary soft drinks with little or no nutritional value, along with regular exercise and eating smart, teens can help keep their bodies looking toned and healthy.  Milk contains nine essential nutrients, including calcium and vitamin D to maintain bone strength, and high-quality protein that along with exercise helps build muscle.
