How to Use Your Chancellor's Honors Program Benefits

Courses

The Chancellor's Honors Program required curriculum and a complete listing of Chancellor's Honors Program (UH) seminars and Departmental Honors Courses are available and regularly updated at the CHP web site. Students must fulfill the required curriculum for their entering class. Graduation from the Chancellor's Honors Program entails more than earning minimum Grade Point Averages. Students must undertake and successfully complete a series of honors-designated courses in General Education as well as at the upper-division level.

Priority Registration for Courses

Chancellor's Honors students must be advised in the appropriate college prior to the beginning of registration. To register for the spring semester, it is recommended that one be advised by October 1, whereas to register for fall semester it is recommended that one be advised by March 1. College Advising Center information is located here.

Faculty

Honors students learn from faculty through multifaceted and mutually respectful interactions. It is the Honors students responsibility to cultivate close working relationships with faculty whose teaching and research projects are of special interest to the student. As UT is a research university, all our faculty are engaged in scholarship in their discipline. Honors students should endeavor to learn about their faculty member's scholarship as an entre to developing an academically significant relationship. Out of these relationships there will emerge --at the very least-- a willing faculty advisor for your Senior Project.

Honors Community

Regardless of residence, Chancellor's Honors students may request to participate in the Honors Community at any point in their undergraduate career. To request membership in the community, please complete the Learning Community application through University Housing and submit a $50 programming fee.

Priority Housing

Early in the spring semester, University Housing issues an e-mail that outlines the process for selecting on-campus housing for the next academic year. Please read this e-mail carefully. Students must comply with Housing's registration process in a timely manner or their priority in the housing assignment process will be lost.

Advanced Library Benefits

For more information on your library privileges, speak to a library staff member at the Circulation Desk on the second floor of Hodges Library or visit the library's honors information web site. Dr. Teresa Berry of Hodges Library is the official Chancellor's Honors Program contact.

Honors Session of Orientation

The Chancellor's Honors Program works with the Office of Student Orientation and Leadership Development to offer three New Student Orientation Sessions specially designed for incoming Chancellor's Honors students. If the on-line Orientation system indicates that the Honors Sessions are full, students are requested to telephone the Office of Student Orientation (865-974-2435) to inquire as to availability. If, however, a Chancellor's Honors student cannot attend an Honors Session or if its capacity is met, we recommend that students register for New Student Orientation at their earliest convenience and seek ad hoc advising assistance from the CHP during their visit to campus. The CHP staff is available during any Orientation session to answer questions. Please telephone 865-974-7875 to make an appointment or to pose a question.

Advising

Special advising meetings are by appointment only. Please contact Mary Ann Bright, Office Manager, to set an appointment with either Dr. Dandaneau or Professor Salzer. Keep in mind that routine academic advising, including the authority to clear students for course registration, is the responsibility of advisors in the student's college.

Chancellor's Honors Program Facilities

Honors students are expected to help maintain the facilities in good order and to report any problems or damage to the CHP Office in F101 Melrose Hall. Students who are not members of the Chancellor’s Honors Program are allowed to use the facilities if accompanied by CHP students.

Study Abroad

CHP students who have received Chancellor's Scholarships that include funds to support study abroad must complete and submit an approval form before the university will release funds in support of the trip. The approval form is available by clicking here.
