The Chancellor's Honors Program is dedicated to promoting and furthering the education of students at The University of Tennessee. Students may choose to meet with advisors to discuss eligibility for opportunities available. Listed below are major fellowships and scholarships. View Chancellor's Honors Program students who are recipients of these awards.
Andrew W. Mellon Fellowships in Humanistic Studies
Designed to support exceptionally promising students as they pursue advanced study in the disciplines of the humanities, the Mellon Fellowship is a competitive award for first-year doctoral students only and cannot be deferred. Mellon Fellows are expected to carry a full course load during the nine-month academic year of the fellowship.
British Marshall Scholarships
Marshall Scholarships are offered for two years of study in the UK. A GPA of 3.7 or above for academic courses after the freshman year is required. Applications must be received by mid October.

Caux Scholars
The Caux Scholars Program focuses on the moral and spiritual dimensions of peacemaking and on the relationship between individual transformation and change in the world. It offers students an opportunity to explore the role individuals can play in bringing healing and building a future where peace, justice, and individual freedom flourish. Students learn about the various factors contributing to conflict between individuals, within communities and nations and between nations. They study the way different world views affect the way we perceive and approach issues of contention, and learn about different models of intervention.
Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Public Policy Fellowship Program
These fellowships are available for recent graduates and enrolled graduate students who are pursuing careers in public policy such as: economics, education, international affairs, journalism, law, etc. Bachelor’s degree should have been received within 12 months of submission of the applications.
Department of Defense National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship Program
Fellowships are awarded to individuals pursuing doctoral degrees for study in the following areas: mathematical, physical, biological, ocean and engineering sciences. These fellowships are intended for students at or near the beginning of their graduate studies. Fellowships are given for three consecutive years. Applicants are evaluated on evidence of ability, including academic records, recommendations, and Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores. Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship Program
These fellowships support transportation-related research, development and technology. The Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship Program was established by the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) in 1991 and re-authorized in 1998 by the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21).
Fulbright Graduate Award
This award is available to graduating senior and graduate students to study abroad. Over 600 awards made yearly to many countries.

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship
The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program was established by Congress in 1986 to honor Senator Barry M. Goldwater. The purpose of the Foundation is to provide a continuing source of highly qualified scientists, mathematicians, and engineers by awarding scholarships to college students who intend to pursue careers in these fields." Applications are due during the sophomore or junior year.

Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Scholarship Program
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation will award graduate scholarships to help students with exceptional promise and demonstrated financial need reach their full potential through education. Each award will fund a portion of educational costs including tuition, fees, and living expenses for the length of a Jack Kent Cooke Scholar's graduate degree, up to six years.

James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation for Secondary School Teaching
These fellowships are intended exclusively for graduate study leading to a master’s degree. A recipient of the James Madison Fellowship Program will be expected to pursue and complete a master’s degree in one of the following (Listed in order of preference): Master of Arts degree (MA) in American history or in political science (government and politics); Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree concentrating on either American Constitutional history or American government, political institutions and political theory; Master of Education degree (MEd) or the Master of Arts or Master of Science in Education, with a concentration in American history or American government, political institutions, and political theory.
Morris K. Udall Scholarship in National Environmental Policy
These one-year scholarships are awarded each spring to sophomore and junior students who are studying United States Environmental Policies or to Native American or Alaska Native students who are studying health care and tribal policy.

National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Fellows Program
The NEH Summer Fellows Program is a summer internship that introduces undergraduate students to the programs, policies, and operations of the NEH. Summer Fellows participate in a 10 week program, assigned to an office of the agency to assist in daily work and to undertake a special project. Note - this program is not funded every year. The application deadline is usually in early February.
National Institutes of Health - Undergraduate Scholarship Program for Individuals from Disadvantaged Backgrounds
This award provides a multi-year undergraduate scholarship award for students who are committed to pursuing careers in health research or biomedical science research. A service component is required, which involves a 10-week laboratory-based internship at NIH during the summer after each scholarship year. After graduation with the baccalaureate degree, recipients complete a year of research training at NIH for every year of scholarship support. Application deadlines usually are in the late spring.
National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowships
These fellowships are available for students who are pursuing graduate study in the sciences and mathematics at any university in the United States.
Rhodes Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded for two to three years of study from Oxford University leading to a degree. Applications should be postmarked by late October.

Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarships
This scholarship is for study outside of the United States. Applications must be submitted to the local chapter between March and July of the year before study.
Truman Scholarship Foundation
These merit based scholarships provide funding to students pursuing graduate degrees in public service fields. Students may apply as early as junior year in college and receive a stipend for their senior year. Stipend also supports graduate study in the U.S. or in foreign countries.

White House Internships
These internships provide first hand experience in the process of governing the nation.
