Intercultural Learning

In order to fulfill their international or intercultural learning graduation requirement, Chancellor’s Honors students may either study abroad, major or minor in a foreign language, or undertake an approved intercultural learning project. The last option is meant to permit recognition of a wide range of activities, including service-learning in a Knoxville school which serves local immigrant and low-income communities, active membership in a recognized UT service group (e.g., Clinic Vols), a semester’s worth of volunteering via a United Way agency (e.g., Big Brothers, Big Sisters), and so forth.

In each of these undertakings, the student’s project transpires over time and involves a significant commitment to learning through a process of crossing real and/or metaphorical social, cultural, and political borders. One-time, one-day service projects probably, therefore, would not meet our minimum standard. The documents provided below permit the CHP to record and recognize your service to others. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

To propose an Intercultural Learning project, please fill out the Intercultural Learning Project Approval form.

At the completion of your project, please submit an Intercultural Learning Project Completion form.

Both forms must be completed and approved in order to receive credit for your intercultural learning experience.
