Speech Pathology major Nina Fortunato is a sophomore at the University of Tennessee. While she is originally from New Jersey, she has lived most of her life in Knoxville and is a graduate of Knoxville Catholic High School. She spent three years on The Shamrock yearbook staff as a writer and photographer and her senior year she was editor-in-chief; her yearbook was ranked third over all in the state by the Tennessee High School Press Association.
Being at the University of Tennessee has afforded Nina many opportunities. In May 2007 she traveled with a group to Cambridge, England for three weeks studying under Dr. Thomas Heffernan. Later that summer she also traveled with the UT Concert Choir, directed by Dr. Angela Batey, to New York City to sing at Carnegie Hall. While traveling is of great interest and joy to Nina, she also enjoys her time on campus. When not in class or studying she is practicing Isshin-Ryu Karate in which she currently holds an orange belt under Master Lance England.
Nina has been a photographer for the Daily Beacon since the spring of 2007 and has been fortunate enough to attend basketball and football games on the courts and field. As a member of the Chancellor’s Honors program, Fortunato is on the publications committee of the Honors Council and an Honors Ambassador. After graduation she hopes to attend UT for graduate studies to attain a doctorate in Speech Pathology.
