By Allison Sonnenberg

Jordan Riggins is a member of the Chancellor’s Honors Program class of 2019. She is a sophomore majoring in Nursing. During high school, Jordan job shadowed a nurse and greatly enjoyed it. She now plans to become a nurse practitioner after she gains experience in the field and pursues a graduate degree.

An involved student, Jordan keeps busy with a variety of organizations. She is a member of the Student Nursing Association, a professional organization for future nurses. She is also in the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority in which she spends time doing sorority activities, fundraisers, and community service.

Jordan is from the Germantown area of Memphis. She chose to come to UT for its prestigious nursing program and the campus environment. She enjoys being on campus, in downtown Knoxville, and East Tennessee in general.

Jordan chose to become an Honors student for the opportunities it offered. She enjoys being part of a driven, thoughtful, and successful community, as well as taking the more challenging and interesting classes offered. She likes attending the Becker seminars as they provide many opportunities to expand her knowledge.

While she has yet to study abroad, she plans to pursue overseas education before she graduates. Locally, she has traveled while doing an alternative fall break, where she assisted with the restoration of substandard housing in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She greatly enjoyed the opportunity to help both individuals and the community as a whole. Jordan plans to participate in more alternative breaks over the coming years.
