A second-year student here at UT, Alina Clay has designed a major through the College Scholars program entitled “Gender Inequality with a Focus in Eastern Europe and South America.” She is the Co-Director of the Student Government Association’s Diversity Affairs Committee and an ESL instructor at Centro Hispano, which is a nonprofit organization that advocates for the rights of the Hispanic community in Knoxville. She is also an active member in Women’s Coordinating Council, the Commission for Women, and Vice Chancellor of Diversity’s Student Advisory Council. Alina is an Undergraduate Research Assistant for Dr. Jana Morgan in the Department of Political Science and helps with research about how societal patterns of inequality shape political attitudes, behaviors, and outcomes in Latin America. Alina plans to study abroad in the 2015-16 academic year, traveling to areas within both Russia and South America. After her undergraduate career, she plans to pursue a master’s degree and ultimately work in the Foreign Service.
